Ox’s Blog: Hump The Covers Off with Slayer – Born To Be Wild

Ox’s Blog: Hump The Covers Off with Slayer – Born To Be Wild

With Slayer riding off into the sunset on their final North American tour this year, which includes a stop in Denver on Saturday, I thought it best that I pay tribute to the band with another one of their covers. Originally recorded by Steppenwolf, Born To Be Wild is a classic, an anthem of the open road. Which is appropriate here because Slayer’s version of the track is found in a rather unexpected place, a compilation released by NASCAR in 2002 called NASCAR: Crank It Up. Last Thursday the Pumpkins stopped in New Jersey of all places to do a 30th anniversary show and they loaded up the set list with a lot of special guests. One of the more interesting combos was Mark McGrath, yeah of Sugar Ray, coming out to join the Pumpkins for a cover of Judas Priest’s Breaking The Law. There were so many other great moments from the show so I have loaded up a ton of them below, check them out. Then catch the Pumpkins at the Pepsi Center on September 5th, but don’t worry Courtney Love probably won’t be...

Check out 10 Years’...

Ox’s Blog: Hump The Covers Off with Machine Head – Message In A Bottle

For tonight’s cover we take a listen to the creepified Message In A Bottle from Machine Head’s 1999 album The Burning Red. The original was popularized by The Police and was a huge hit for the band. Machine Head slow it down and give it a creepier, more menacing twist that I am digging! Hit play and get ready for the goosebumps. For more Hump The Covers Off check out my blog...

We’re getting close to the one year anniversary of the death of Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington and there are a lot of tributes coming out. The Veer Union went acoustic for their cover of the LP smash hit Numb. I feel like The Veer Union do justice to the track and to Chester, take a listen.
