Tonight I’m giving you a couple of collaborations that feature some badass female vocalists!
‘Big Mouth’ by Red Dragon Cartel featuring In This Moment’s Maria Brink on guest vocals. The track is off their self titled debut album released in January 2014. Red Dragon Cartel is a band led by former Ozzy Osbourne and Badlands guitarist Jake E. Lee who also in the early ‘80s played briefly with Dio. But of course he is best known for his time with Ozzy, joining his band after the tragic death of Randy Rhoads. He appeared on the albums ‘Bark at the Moon’ and ‘The Ultimate Sin.’
On the Red Dragon Cartel album he also recorded songs with Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, former original Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno, Sass Jordan and now the current permanent frontman Darren James Smith. In addition to the guest vocalists, there are a bunch of other guest musicians including Rex Brown (Pantera), Scott Reeder (Kyuss), Todd Kerns and Brent Fitz (Slash) and Jeremy Spencer (Five Finger Death Punch).
Some tracks on the album have a heavy dose of Lee’s guitar wizardry, while on others he takes a backseat. There are plenty of great solos and excellent riffs throughout, so it’s definitely worth checking out!
And according to Jake the band’s sophomore album titled “Patina”, is done recording and it should be out sometime early this year. The follow-up will mark the band’s first release full release with Darren James Smith handling all vocal duties.
“Meat” is a track by Tony Iommi that features Deborah Anne Dyer, better known as Skin, the lead vocalist for the now broken up British rock band Skunk Anansie. It also features additional guitar by the bands lead guitarist Ace. Skunk Anansie were are a big part of Britrock movement, and were mildly successful in the late 90’s and early ’00’s with several hit singles including “Charity”, “Hedonism”, “Selling Jesus” and their most popular one “Weak”.
This collaboration comes from Tony Iommi’s solo album, ‘Iommi’ that was released back in October of 2000. Again the album took about five years to write and record and included a slew of guest vocalists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grohl, Phil Anselmo, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Henry Rollins, Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Billy Idol, Ian Astbury of the Cult and the late Peter Steel of Type O Negative along with a bunch of other guest musicians like Brian May of Queen, members of Soundgarden, Bill Ward of Black Sabbath and many more.
Again this is an awesome album that sort of flew under the radar when it was first released and it feature’s some of the best doomy guitar riffs out of Iommi’s entire career! Tony said in recent interviews that he is constantly still coming up with those killer riffs and he would love to get back into a recording studio soon and maybe even record another album like this in the future. I truly hope he does and gets to collaborate with other singers like maybe Rob Halford or even Corey Taylor and others from current hard rock and metal bands! That would be cool as hell!
